Patient Care

Navigating the process of filling specialty prescriptions can be complicated. Our Patient Care Advocates can help.

WE ARE HERE TO HELP

Filling specialty prescriptions can be challenging. The process to get your medication can be very different than filling a typical prescription. Our Patient Care Advocates can help.

Prior Authorization

Often, the specialty prescription needs what is known as a prior authorization.  A “PA” is a way for your insurance company prescription benefit to be sure that your prescription meets all their requirements for coverage before being filled.

Insurance Support

We collect information about your prescription benefit that your doctor will need to be sure you meet the requirements of the insurance company.  The PA process can take a few days, a week, and sometimes longer for approval.  If we have access to the physician’s electronic medical records, the process can be shortened significantly.  The goal is to get your medication to you as soon as possible so you can start your therapy.

Prescription Approval

If your prescription is approved, we’ll be in touch to discuss your medication and schedule your delivery.  If your prescription is not approved, we will let you know and help you and your doctor determine what the best next steps will be.  This could include appealing the decision, selecting a different product or other alternatives.

Our Prescription Process

Prescription Order Received From MD
Your demographic and insurance information as well as the medication ordered is entered into our pharmacy system, and we will begin the Prior Authorization process (if necessary).

Insurance Approval
When the insurance company approves your medication, we will contact you to plan for delivery. At that time, if you have further questions, a pharmacist is available to consult with you. We deliver the medication to your home, or if applicable to the MD office.

Schedule Pickup or Delivery
We deliver the medication to your home, or if applicable to the MD office. When it is time for your next delivery, we will contact you to arrange for the next delivery. When it is time for your prescription to be renewed, we will contact your physician and obtain refill authorization in time for your next delivery.
